January

was the month
- I did very little of anything pertaining to the Chinese New Year; it has been a very pleasant month. In particular, I successfully avoided having to deal with mother after a pre new year lunch. She is more unhappy with me than usual, but that's another story for another post.

- I was back in Katong more times in one month than the entire previous year.

- I love the pockets of old Katong that I still recognize - old style homes and shops that stayed the same as if in defiance of aggressive encroachment fueled by crass modernization of the area.

- I finally got together with my favourite group of pig-out friends for a long-promised evening at the veritable grand dame of peranakan food - Guan Hoe Soon.

- I am happy that the new kid on the block - Haven's Grill (191 Joo Chiat Road, tel 63487368) across the narrow street from Guan Hoe Soon - finally got their liquor license. They are set to welcome diners looking for great western food on a street long dominated by zhi char stalls and pubs.

I'm happy too we got together for dinner and some catching up again. Loved the food esp the udang and the 'furong dan'. :)

And it is nice to see parts of Singapore that stays the same. I can't stand this country's need for novelty and demolishing of the old. There's no sense of belonging when everything keeps changing.

love the pic. the only problem with it is that, being a city girl, everytime i see big estates or places like that, i think mozzies, ants and watnots. so terrible right?

i'm definitely a 'flat' person. the dunno how to live in house type. can only live in one if i'm on a vacation.

gathering too short haven't done b*tching about weirdo belly dancer, but didn't dare suggest anything else with baby around now. wanted to suggest coffee at my place...but place is a big mess, a big transformation from the last time you visited :P, hence too shy!

anyhow, i'll organise the next one, perhaps 2 or 3 months time and make sure that spider is (not) around so that he can('t) pick up the tab! wahahahaha...

had a really good time, thanks edpj for arranging

wildgoose - i think rebuilding is a necessity. it's the ugly monster homes i have a problem with.

edpjunkie - i think peranakan food is near impossible to do well on a commercial scale.

chapel road. the row of old style terrace homes is still as gracious as i remembered it.

imp - i am with you about living highrise. i love looking at these old style homes, not live in them:)

suziewong - what??? baby going to repeat what you said? now we have to wait months to hear your story? chey!! and pfhmmfftt!!
