The Journey - a poem for you

It will always pain me to see my women friends continue to work at being everything to everybody.

These words are dedicated to you:

But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do--
determined to save
the only life you could save.

I find that it's so ingrained in the culture for women to self-sacrifice and look after the needs of others first. It takes a brave soul to think and do otherwise.

wildgoose - all that is true. plus, the women usually feel guilty if they did anything that is for themselves.

i saw this post a few days back and then a day later, i was finding my own way home.

in a nutshell; it's hard to be a good human being.

I find that this is very true for most mothers too. They sacrifice so much of themselves for the sake of their family. I can't say I'm any different, but I consciously try to reconnect with my sense of self. So, thank you for this poem. It serves to remind. :)
