Pig-out @ Moi Kong Hakka Restaurant

Moi Kong came to mind when the pig-out friends had a craving for Hakka food. We have been going to this restaurant over many years. It was a lunch time favourite in our early years as working stiffs on nearby Shenton Way. We have never been disappointed with the quality of food or service at this 40 year-old establishment.

It is an old style family-run Chinese restaurant that prides itself on tradition and authenticity. We consider their Hakka Yong Tau Foo and Hakka Fried Noodle to be signature dishes.

But of course we would never think to neglect any of their special recommendations. So, as we have done so many times in the past, we gleefully ate our way through an ever-growing list of favourites.

Moi Kong Hakka Restaurant is located at:
22 Murray Street (Food Alley)
S. 079529
Tel: 6221 7758

update December 2008 : the restaurant has reopened at
10 Lim Teck Kim Road
S. 088938
Tel: 62261523

last update: this restaurant has since closed.

I remember the food as very yummy. :) I suppose you didn't get round to trying out Plum Village? It's pretty good to me, then I don't know if it's authentically Hakka.

We get you and go Plum Village next time! Frankly, I am not stickler for authenticity. Good food is good food.

Hi!

The shops along Murray Street are under renovation.

Moi Kong restaurant didn't put up notice where it relocated to. When i tried calling it gave invalid phone number.

Anybody know where it is now? :)

Hi, the restaurant is no longer at Lim Teck Kim Road. Went there on 10 May 2009, 10 Lim Teck Kim Road is an empty shop, shutters closed. The telephone 6226 1523 is also not in use.

So wat happened? Closed for good?

Noooooo!! I knew that it had shut for renovation but shut for good? That means that we are now only left with Plum Village. While my family has been going to both Moi Kong and Plum Village for more than 20 years (real Hakka food as compared to those single stalls just selling Hakka Yong Tau Fu, Thunder Tea Rice (noticed how these two restaurants NEVER sold this, it took some convincing from my dad that this was actully Hakka being that my idea of Hakka food is sinfully unhealthy and fatty) but my last trip to Plum Villiage was disappointing with the Kong Bak Mui Cai being rather dry and lean and the rest of the good being rather ordinary, contrasted against a bowl of rough, tough white rice (not the fluffy type) I never had any complains about Moi Kong...anyway thanks for the review and for the memories! ~ Hakka Boy
