I love Yangchow fried rice

I do not like plain steamed white rice. I like dressed-up rice - bryani, Hainan chicken rice-rice, lor mei fan, nasi lemak, nasi kunyit. And fried rice. Especially yangchow fried rice.

A pig-out friend was so thoughtful to buy us dinner at this elegant Chinese Restaurant that also happens to serve up the perfect yangchow fried rice.

Where the rice is still el dente and particulate to the bite,

where the wok is so hot that the fried rice has wok hei in its aroma,

where the mix of garnishes - prawns, char siu, scrambled eggs, chopped scallions - are in perfect proportion so that every mouthful is a harmonious medley of taste and texture,

where the colours of seductive red, fresh yellow, and brilliant green on shiny white are in good balance so that the dish is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach.

The friend is right. The yangchow fried rice here is exactly like that.

The restaurant is in a members-only club. So make friends with somebody who is a member already!

hmmm. maybe i'll be brave and try it again. the last 2 times were terrible. the food was soaked in oil and soggy.

imp - oh...THAT bad huh? the food we had were nothing close to oily or soggy. just not too imaginative for a fancy chinese restaurant, u know.

Are you going to be that "friend"? :D

but seriously, our maid at home cooks a pretty mean fried rice, complete with wok hei (although can't say the same for her other dishes) so I never have to crave for fried rice. It's not yangzhou fried rice though. :p

hey same here. don't understand why i can't resist fried rice. the other day was suppose to eat curry chicken with spider at kopitiam, then saw the picture if fried rice so tempting, but felt bad to change my mind (cos me and spider usually share ONE portion of curry chicken with french loaves). So I had to da bao fried rice for my dinner...hahah

suziewong - curry rice more romantic than fried rice!
